For this module, check out the lists of online applications I've put together. Act as a critic and evaluate at least four online applications across the different lists. Try the sites out. Put them through the ropes. Are they easy to use? Would your students be able use them? Write an evaluation for each of the site you check out. Also, explain how you could use the application in YOUR class. Note: If another person has evaluated one of the applications already, you can build off their evaluations. I'd like to have the whole list of links evaluated though. Each evaluation you write should be about 150 words in length.
Note: All of these sites are (or were) FREE. If you come across a site that is no longer FREE, don't review it. For this assignment, I want us to examine only those tools that are freely available to our classrooms! Also, be sure to put your name with your posts.
Online publishing tools: StoryJumper khorting; This site is so cool! I think students would love doing this! I could have each student make a book of the skills we do. This could go on throughout the year. At the end of the year I could use my classroom money to publish the students' books. It only costs $2.00 to publish! They allow you to print a very low resolution copy, but it has story jumper watermark across the middle of the page. A colleague of mine has her students make a magazine. It took A LOT of time, stress, and parent involvement to do this. I think this could replace the magazine and cause far less stress on my friend. I wish I could view books that other people created. They only allow you to see the front and back cover. There is a place with FAQ that was helpful in explaining how this site worked. There is also a very kid friendly step by step direction tool that students could use when they are first learning how the application works. I was considering having students write their essays/stories on here, but I think it's a little too young. It would be great for first or second graders to write short stories though! Notapipe khorting: This wouldn't open for me. Letterpop khorting: This looks great for making my monthly newsletters. It is very professional looking. There are tons of templates to use too! CardFunk khorting: This wouldn't open Brochure maker khorting: This wouldn't open. I wish it would because I have students make brochures of the colonies. Glogster is an application that allows you to make a poster in your own creative way. You can insert images, links, videos, and there are clip art features already for you to use also. There are many different backgrounds, fonts, colors, etc to add to your project. It is an awesome way to express yourself. I could see using this with my students as an introduction activity, or to research and present a new concept they learned. I would give them a topic such as healthy habits, and they would then be able to interpret what healthy habits mean to them. This is an easy application to use and I see the students having a lot of fun and learning at the same time. I could also use it to present a topic such as career and college exploration. Here is the link to my glogster where I added a video, added attachments, and linked websites to my glogster for students to navigate. unfortunately this is going to expire in 9 days so i would have to upgrade to save it.
